Orange Orangutans
Dear Parents,
Welcome to the Orange Orangutans Room! We are very excited to begin learning and exploring with your child. The Orange Room consists of 3-5 year olds along with one lead teacher and two to three assistant teachers. There are typically 20 children enrolled in the classroom.
The Orange Room follows the Constructivist Approach while developing and implementing the curriculum and creating the classroom environment. The Constructivist Approach allows for the children to construct their knowledge through exploration and play. Not only will the Orange Room’s curriculum focus on fundamental skills such as math, science, reading, and writing, but also upon their social and moral development. Each day, children will have access to a variety of learning tools and materials to develop these skills that will include, at minimum, the following centers: art/writing, sensory, math and science, blocks, quiet area/reading, manipulative, music and movement, multicultural, and dramatic play.
Twice a year, parent/teacher conferences will be held in order to review each child’s individual progress and set goals for the following months. A portfolio will be kept in the classroom to hold documentation of each child’s progress. This documentation will be in the form of written observations, photographs, and child’s work. You are welcome to review the portfolio at any time!
Field trips will also be scheduled throughout the year to allow children to explore hands on outside of the classroom. Parent participation is crucial to making each field trip a success. Field trip destinations are to be announced.
There will be communication forms posted on the parent board that can be used to address concerns, questions, or suggestions. All teachers will also be communicating with each other through daily documentation in a “Communication Book.” Please feel free to contact us via telephone, writing, or email at any time and your concern/question will be addressed as soon as possible.
