We are looking for a qualified people to prepare young children for kindergarten by easing them into organized education in our inclusive classrooms. You will teach them important elements that they will encounter soon after they enter school life. The goal is to contribute to the healthy mental, physical, and emotional development of the child, so they can more easily acclimate in the next level of education. Full and Part-Time positions available.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assists in collecting data regarding each child’s progress.
  • Assists Lead Teacher in implementation of curriculum.
  • Learns about and becomes familiar with each child’s specific needs, strengths, goals, and plans.
  • Follows through with lesson plans and daily activities.
  • Assists students individually or in groups in accordance with the lesson plan.
  • Assists in meeting each child’s physical needs.
  • Assists in daily housekeeping to promote a positive learning environment in the classroom
  • Responsible for health and safety of each child in the classroom; in accordance with Health and Safety Policy and Procedures.
  • Maintains positive communication with families regarding all aspects of child’s development, NEEC events, and other important information in the form of daily notes, phone conversations, and/or personal conversations.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality with regard to children and family information
  • Participates in staff meetings and other meetings as directed.
  • Communicates accurately and positively with staff, community, families, and other providers.
  • Monitors the consistent application of policies and procedures in the classroom.
  • Participates in community events involving NEEC.
  • Ensures the safety of each child in the classroom.
  • Presents a positive and professional demeanor at NEEC and to the community.


Education/Experience: A minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent and some experience in working with the birth to five-year-old population. Prefer an Associate’s degree in early childhood education or related field

Language Ability: Ability to read and interpret documents such as procedure manuals and safety rules. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to children, families and co-workers.

Math Ability: Ability to count ratios of children to staff in the classroom.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Training/Certificates/Licenses: Infant/Child CPR and First Aid certifications are required and must be maintained. Certification training is provided. Medication Administration is recommended. If hired, Assistant Teachers are required to complete 12 hours of approved training.

Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, handle, feel, and talk.  The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Age Requirement: Assistant Teachers must be at least 18 years of age or under direct supervision of a lead teacher.
